This is the big advantage of the web interface and/or a MIDI device or Control Surface your TD can continue switching while you, as the producer, can do whatever needs to be done 'behind the scenes'. This means that any time you have any other functions to perform, either within vMix (edit a Title for example) or outside of vMix (moderate a chat room or send a tweet), your 'Keyboard Shortcuts' for switching in vMix are non-functional (since the keyboard is required in that other 'Active' window). If, on the other hand, it is just an extension of the keyboard, then there will be limitations to what you can do since the main User Interface Window has to be 'Active' for it to recognize "Shortcuts". If it does, you are laughing as it would be equivalent to the aforementioned independent Control Surface. I am not sure, however, if a separate number pad behaves any differently than a built-in keyboard number pad (what I mostly use). Having an independent Control Surface, whether a MIDI device, touch pad or custom hardware is the way to go. I look forward to eliminating the ATEM and utilizing more of the great features vMix offers.

would a simple numpad be able to punch the inputs live? Are there any concerns of "priority" I should worry about with multiple commands being sent to the software at the same time by 2 people?Īny light you guys could shed on these questions or any other advice you could give would be great. I control all functions of the production and the 2nd will strictly be focused on the video switching. what are some good options to control the mixing functions? without yet being able to purchase the control surface, and I would rather not use the iPad interface either, I am curious how things will work with both myself and another person controlling vMix at the same time.

I will have a full screen output set to Multiview for the operator to monitor the inputs and preview / program feeds. My main concern is what is the workflow for a 2nd operator to control the mixing function separately. I will be bringing in 3-4 Cameras into vMix 4K. I am waiting for my capture card to arrive (Magewell XI400DE HDMI), and would like some input on the process for removing the ATEM from my workflow.
